Computer Glasses

Many of us suffer from CVS (Computer Vision Syndrome).  Is everything a syndrome these days?   This occurs from sitting and staring at a computer screen for hours each day.    The solution is to have a reading correction in your glasses of some kind.  In this computer driven world that we live in today, the vast majority of people are using some type of electronic device.  Desk tops, laptops, Kindles, Nooks, iPads, smart phones, the list goes on...  Many of us rely heavily on computer usage for our jobs as well as home usage.  We are also finding out that a pair of reading glasses or even those expensive, progressive lenses aren't doing the job you need them to do.  Within the past 5 years or so, I've seen a great need for computer glasses as a second pair.
Computer glasses can be made depending on how you need to use them, also your prescription may be a factor in your choice.   Years ago, we would make a bifocal  for people who needed to read music, and usually give them about half of the reading prescription in the distance portion of the lens and the full reading correction in the bifocal.  This allowed the person to be able to see clearly at 16 and 30 inches (or whatever intermediate distance that was specified).  There was no distance correction used.  This worked because the music was generally set at the same distance all the time.  Now, with people using their desktops, laptops, cell phones, electronic books, etc....the monitor distances can vary from 12 to 48 inches.  Current lens technology allows us to create a computer lens called a "near variable focus" lens.  Essentially, they are reading glasses that will allow you to read up close and see clearly to about 4-5 feet.  Most major lens manufacturers have some type of lens that will do this for you.  I have been wearing a computer lens for the last 3 years called "Access" by Carl Zeiss Vision.  It's a very versatile lens, that does everything for me besides seeing distance clearly. Ask your doctor or optician if this lens might be right for you.  Please comment or send me an email at the.eyeguy@yahoo.com  if you have any questions or want more information on a specific computer lens.
